“The Power of Advocating Through Music” TEDxWESTMONROE 2021

When my sister, Juanita Brown, passed away at the age of 48 from colon cancer, my world was shattered.

The day after she passed away, I wrote a song that was my interpretation of her cancer journey and with that, created a lyric video, encased with messaging for colon cancer awareness. When I shared it with the colon cancer community, the response was overwhelming and this is where “Lyrical Revival™” was birthed.

Music is a powerful tool that connects humans on all levels we sometimes don’t understand. Where all walks of life, belief systems, and causes are united with the single purpose of advocating for one another through their love for music.

Advocacy is a call for public support for or recommendation of a particular cause or policy.  While many have done this through speeches and fundraisers, very few advocate through songwriting and music. This approach reveals the untapped power of combining music and advocacy to create human impact.

Maybe music will be the critical voice that creates the awakening to help us unite during these times of separation and chaos. When we are divided by speech, we can be united and reunited through the power of song.
